It is said that the waffle ice cream cone was invented at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair when a waffle vendor had an experience that was totally business threatening. He ran out of cardboard plates on which he served waffles covered with ice cream. Worse, he could not find anyone to resupply him with additional plates. Without the plates and with the time constraints, he was facing economic disaster. That night he went home and with his wife’s help made a thousand waffles. He then pressed each with her flat iron on their ironing board. While still hot, he took the flattened waffles and rolled each into a circular cone. As they cooled they retained their conical shape. The next morning, they sold their ice cream in the new waffle cones. It was so unique and successful that before noon, they had sold out all their waffles and ice cream! You are not alone!
